Happy First Day of Fall, aka Cozy Reading Season 🍂🥧📚

It’s finally here! The fall season has arrived, officially.

For days it’s felt like fall, growing closer and closer. The weather turning a bit cooler, the leaves a bit gold along the edges. But, not just yet. Until today! Today September 23rd, is the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. So, Happy Fall to you! I don’t know if it’s because I really enjoy reading Gothic and spooky novels, or because I love watching the leaves change colors, or just the general warmth and coziness of the season, but I do genuinely love fall and look forward to it every year. Each season has its unique beauty and fun attributes, but for me autumn is always a standout season.

We have a list of books we’re hoping to read this season, sometimes it feels as though the time passes so quickly and we don’t get around to all of them. But hopefully, this year we will! We love spooky books most of all, and this year two books we’re planning to read are “Gustavo the Shy Ghost” by Flavia Z. Drago, and “Mr. Pumpkin’s Tea Party” by Erin Barker. I love the style of illustrations in “Gustavo the Shy Ghost” Having lived for years in El Paso, along the US Mexico border, I adore the pictures that remind me so much of the Día de Muertos celebrations we came to love.

“Mr. Pumpkin’s Tea Party,” has the most wickedly fun counting read along, right in line with the spooky season. There are so many more, far too many to list. It seems that fall is an inspiration to many authors and illustrators, and it’s a theme in lots of great books.

There are truly so many fun and lovely options for fall reading. But there are also many other ways you can enjoy the season, and find your own form of relaxation. A good show, some drawing, a fun board game, a nice walk outside, watching a football game, enjoying a really delicious pumpkin spice coffee or muffin, there are really many ways to bask in the loveliness of fall. I hope that you have the most wonderful and joyful season this year 🧡🤎
