The Beginning

I remember very clearly the moment that I first knew I wanted to publish a book. I remember drawing the pictures—the story was about a squirrel who learns to fly. I wrote in the text as carefully as I could. I had bad handwriting then, it’s just as bad now. Thank goodness for typing 🙂 When this was done I took my pages, and fastened the ends with tape. I then looked down at my creation, and then something like love ran through me. My book. I was so extremely happy.

I’ve always loved books. They are, and always have been, incredibly powerful. They are friends, a ticket to another place, a treasure trove of knowledge, a solace, a place of comfort, a window to another time and place. Growing up I read constantly. As a first generation Cuban American, my Cuban family passed on to me the stories of censorship and oppression under the dictatorship. Here, like in many places around the world, information was restricted. When they had books available to read, they read them quickly and with great love, eagerly taking in the stories—an escape from the repressive world around them.

I’ve begun Colorful Swans Press with my family in mind, as they always are. I took a meandering, nonlinear path here, finally deciding to take the plunge when the siren song of that childhood dream became to difficult to resist. The world is not always the happiest place to be. I want to create Colorful Swans Press to be a place that brings a little bit of joy and kindness into this world. An escape, a place of fantasy and whimsy, where everyone is welcome and everyone is loved. I hope very much that you will follow along with us and that we can get to know each other. This blog is where we’ll be publishing updates about upcoming books, book reviews, author interviews, and a lot of freebies, because freebies are awesome 🤩

That’s all I have for now! Wishing you all a very happy Sunday with all of your favorite books and time to read them ♥️
