Autumn and a Book: Some Quotes About Fall

It’s almost fall again….

The year went fast, didn’t it? It seems to me that every year gets faster, passing by in a blur of activity punctuated by holidays. Fall has always been my favorite season though. As a book lover especially, there really is something about the cool air, the changing leaves, and the smell of pumpkin and spice to make you want to reach for a blanket and a book. I love saving spooky or atmospheric books for fall reading, and I have a few that I’ve been looking forward to just for this special season. And I know I’m not alone in feeling this way! Fall, with its vibrant hues and cozy ambiance, has captured the hearts of poets, authors, and writers for centuries. From the rustling of leaves to the scent of nutmeg and cinnamon in the air, the season has inspired some of the most beautiful and evocative quotes in literature. Here are a few I like to read that conjure fall memories and feelings for me!

-“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby”

F. Scott Fitzgerald beautifully encapsulates the idea that autumn is a season of renewal and transformation. The crispness in the air heralds a fresh beginning, much like the shedding of leaves from trees.

-“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” – Albert Camus

The French philosopher Albert Camus reminds us that autumn doesn’t signify the end but rather a vibrant continuation of nature’s beauty. Each falling leaf becomes a unique masterpiece of its own, adding to the splendor of the season.

-Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” – Lauren DeStefano, “Wither”

Lauren DeStefano’s quote captures the essence of fall as a grand finale of nature’s annual performance. It’s a time when trees, in their brilliant hues, put on a breathtaking show before the quietude of winter settles in.

-“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” – L.M. Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables”

Anne Shirley, the beloved character created by L.M. Montgomery, expresses her joy for living in a world that includes the enchanting month of October. I totally agree Anne 🙂

-“Autumn… the year’s last, loveliest smile.” – John Howard Bryant

John Howard Bryant poetically describes autumn as a smile bestowed by the passing year. The visual imagery of fall’s colors and warmth captures the bittersweet feeling of the season.

-“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” – Jim Bishop

Jim Bishop draws our attention to the golden hues that dominate the autumn landscape. The warm, golden colors evoke a sense of richness and abundance that sets this season apart.

-“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” – Emily Brontë

Emily Brontë’s quote beautifully conveys the idea that each falling leaf in autumn whispers happiness and beauty. The gentle fluttering of leaves is a soothing melody to the soul.

-“Autumn leaves don’t fall; they fly. They take their time and wander on this their only chance to soar.” – Delia Owens, “Where the Crawdads Sing”

Delia Owens poetically likens falling leaves to graceful flight. In their descent, leaves embrace their fleeting moment of freedom and beauty, reminding us to enjoy the small moments.

Fall has a unique ability to inspire writers and poets to capture its essence in words. The quotes mentioned above are just a few examples of the admiration and attention that the fall season has garnered in literature. As you enjoy the changing leaves and the cozy moments this autumn, remember the wisdom and beauty expressed in these quotes and let them deepen your appreciation for this truly magical time of year.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thursday with lots of great books and reading and happy moments throughout,
