A Book and a Spring Day

Growing up one of my favorite things to do was grab a book and head outside. It was very rural where we lived, and there was plenty of space to find a spot under a tree to relax and read. The grass was green, and the breeze was cool. The only sounds were the whispers of the turning pages and the chirping of nearby insects. Sometimes a bird would sing, or a plane would fly overhead, the sound growing louder and then fading away into the distance. In the grass there were flowers, usually daisies. Sometimes there were dandelions, and other wildflowers I didn’t recognize but were beautiful nonetheless. When the sun began to dip below the horizon and the air grew cool I would come back in, book in hand.

There is something really special about a good book on a spring day. Being in nature, surrounded by the Earth, has a way of creating a sense of peace and wellbeing that is almost impossible to replicate. Losing yourself in a story, forgetting your fears and struggles in the undulating waves of a page, is one of my greatest escapes. Now so many years later, I still love reading outside. Spring is a season where new life is in full bloom, the days filled with possibilities. It has such an amazing ability to regenerate and heal.

As I start this journey with Colorful Swans Press, I am reminded of those spring days when everything was so new and exciting. I’m reminded of why I’ve always loved books, and why they are so important for (everyone of course), but for children especially. I can’t wait to share more about some of our upcoming books with you, and hope that they will make you feel as happy and loved as they make us feel.

Wishing you a really lovely Friday,

-Colorful Swans Press
