Audiobooks are Awesome!

Do you listen to audiobooks? I know that there are differing opinions on this subject, but I love audiobooks!

There was a time (in the not so recent past), that my reading had dwindled to pretty close to nothing. At the end of the day when I finally had a chance to read I was far too exhausted and usually ended up falling asleep with an open book or Kindle in my hands. It was frustrating because I have always loved reading, and to be honest I really missed it.

I was resistant to audiobooks at first because I worried that it wouldn’t be a good experience listening to a book versus reading. We listened to audio books a lot when I was growing up, and sometimes the stories captivated me but oftentimes I found myself zoning out. When I finally decided to give them another try, however, I discovered that I enjoyed the stories just as much as reading! The biggest benefit for me was that I could read (listen) while I did other things. It allowed me to go from reading basically nothing, to two or sometimes three books a week. I like the flexibility that they give me. I can do work around the house, sketch, and even drive. That’s a lot of time to listen to stories.

Audiobooks are becoming more and more popular, and it is worthwhile for authors and publishers to consider this format in order to reach new readers and audiences. It is not as straightforward of a process as publishing an ebook, and involves a not insignificant investment of time and expense. But considering how many readers I know who love audiobooks, I definitely think that it is worth exploring to see if this option is right for you.

At Colorful Swans Press we are hoping to publish our titles as audiobooks. It is frightening considering that we have quite a learning curve ahead of us as we begin. We hope that you will follow along with us as we write about our experiences, and we would love to share with you our mistakes, successes, and lessons learned.
