Spring is here, and even though we live in the desert, there is green and there are flowers everywhere, when you look closely. I love searching for flowers during our walks. We find all of the colors we can, seeing how many different kinds of flowers we can discover in our neighborhood before we arrive back home. One of my favorite things to do is buy flowers from the farmer’s market, putting them in a vase and marveling at the intricacy, the beauty of each individual bloom. With all of that being said, choosing this week’s book was an easy choice!
This week we read Have You Ever Seen a Flower, by Shawn Harris. I was immediately captivated by the cover, by the vibrancy of the illustrations. I couldn’t wait to open it and see more of the lovely art.
A flower is a world unto itself, a little kingdom filled with joy. The words in this book are beautiful, recognizing that inside of each petal and stem, there is a universe. The illustrations are stunning, with bright pinks, oranges, yellows and greens. Flipping through the pages and soaking in the beauty of the art is like strolling through a garden.
If you love nature, if flowers bring you peace, then you will enjoy the lovely illustrations in this book. April 22nd is Earth Day, and it’s nice to read a book celebrating nature and recognizing the importance of not only enjoying, but also cherishing and protecting the beauty and majesty of our Earth. What are you reading this week? Will you be reading anything special for Earth Day?
Wishing you a beautiful weekend and happy reading!
